It may only be September, but the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) are just around the corner! Now is a great time to get started on your holiday decoration organization.
Organizing your holiday decorations now means you won’t be as pressed for time. If you wait until it’s time to decorate for Halloween to go through it all you won’t actually get rid of much.
So first, start with just one box or one drawer. Go through all the ribbons and boxes, ghost candles and pumpkin pot holders, and check for anything broken or torn. That goes in the “trash” pile.
Next, ask yourself if this is still a decoration you WANT to use. Does it bring you joy, as Marie Kondo would ask? If it doesn’t, if you know you won’t use it, put it in the “donate” pile. There are plenty of people at thrift stores looking for great gently used decorations!
After you’ve made your piles, the next holiday decoration organization step is to put like with like. If you’ve previously had things scattered through 3 or 4 boxes, this time try a different tactic. Put all your soft goods (linens, towels, pot holders) together in one box. Use bubble wrap or another packing product to pack your ceramics and decorative tins, snow globes, etc. This way you can take out one set of items at a time.
Label, label, label! Now that everything is in its place take some time to label all your boxes so that you know exactly where that Christmas wreath is!
