Set Goals, Start Small, Ask for Help, Use What you Have
First, set some easy and manageable goals for your organization plans. Perhaps you set a goal to get one room organized each month. You may surprise yourself by getting it done faster, but setting a manageable goal means you’re much more likely to try for an attain it!
Other goals to consider:
- Fit the car back in the garage
- Donate 5 bags of clothing
- Get all clothes off the floor and organized
- Clean out the spice drawer
- Clean out the junk drawer
- Organize the car / van / truck
Then, start small. Even these goals can be broken down into tinier bits and pieces. If your goal for January is to organize the bedroom, don’t save it for the last day of the month. Break down your goal into smaller bits like, “clean out from under the bed,” “declutter the dresser,” and “take all items that don’t belong in the bedroom to their respective homes.”
Next, if you get stuck, ask for help, or search Pinterest for more ideas. Use magazines that focus on organizing and talk to your friends who seem to be super organized. You may be surprised at their simple tricks, like setting a timer. If you’re stuck with organizing, set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and have at it! You may be surprised at what you get done.
Finally, use what you have! You probably won’t need to go out and purchase baskets or bins for organizing. Look around and gather all your storage boxes, ottomans, baskets, etc and go from there. Repurpose plant stands as small end tables, use a shoe caddy for scarves and gloves. Get creative, have fun, and we guarantee you’ll be organized in no time!
